August team update: Continuing to shine a light on co-production

August 10, 2023

As the warmth of August (hopefully!) envelops us and our collective efforts continue to shine a light on co-production, it's time to provide you with the latest news about what we as a community have been up to, and the exciting opportunities that are around the corner.

What have we been up to this month?

On 27 July we had the third session in our series to co-create our new strategy to ‘Our Direction’ which came to an end in 2022. This session focused on revisiting our values to see if they are still fit for purpose. Thirty people took part in the session, and we had a really lively conversation that brought up many different areas for consideration. We will be in touch soon with a summary of the discussions as well as information on the next steps. Thank you for everyone who took part, we really value your contributions.

Coming up

George and a group of our community will be coming together for the first meeting of the Communications Sub Group that has been put together in response to In light of the feedback we received about our communications in our end of year survey.

The first EPUT (Essex Partnership University NHS Trust) Co-production Conference is coming up, which is organised by one of our co-producers, Mark. It will take place on Monday 23 October 2023. You can book your ticket and find out more on this Eventbrite page.

Measuring success in co-production: Learning by Doing funding

As we mentioned in last month’s blog we have received £150,000 from Research England to fund five to seven projects across the themes of mental health and wellbeing and/or climate change. Each of which will receive £10,000-15,000. Our focus, and that of the projects we fund as part of this piece of work, will be on creating good conditions for co-production, and on learning more about how to evaluate, share and learn about good practice along the way.

Co-production Cuppas

Thank you for those of you who joined our August Co-Pro Cuppa. We had a lovely discussion on a variety of topics including how the buzzword of co-production can be used in a tokenistic way and the support needed to ensure everyone can take part in the co-production process on an equal footing.

Our next Co-Pro Cuppas will take place on the Thursday 7 September at 12:00 UK time and Tuesday 3 October at 10.00 UK time. You can find out more and sign up via the events page on our website.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about our work, please get in contact by emailing us on coproduction@ucl.ac.uk and If you're a LinkedIn user, please follow us there.
