July team update: planning for progress

A seagull flies above the sea against bright sunshine.

While the sun has been shining and some activities are winding down for the summer, we still have plenty of projects in progress. This month we’ve been particularly focussed on planning and collaborating with our partners and project co-producers, as well as reflecting on how we can implement our learning from anti-racism training that many of the team attended.

What we've been up to

Aleem, Nicc, Rosie and Sarah attended anti-racism training delivered by Anti-Racist Cumbria. We explored how racism shows up in our work, and discussed steps that we can take to be actively anti-racist. We will be reflecting more as a team in the coming weeks, and look forward to sharing how we are putting our learning into practice.

Hania co-facilitated a co-creation event as part of the Suicide Prevention partnership with the National Suicide Prevention Alliance (NSPA), continuing work on co-creating a set of shared principles for lived experience work in suicide prevention.

Hania attended a knowledge & collaboration exchange event, hosted by NSPA with the group "Racialised Voices for Life", on racial equity in suicide prevention. The aim was to share and reflect on projects and initiatives around racial equity and anti-racism, as well as amplify racialised voices, in suicide prevention.   She also attended a meeting with members of the London Alliance for the Coproduction of Evidence Synthesis (LACES) Advisory Group, where they discussed how to evaluate co-production activities.

Hania and Isaac took part in a project partnership meeting for a piece of work commissioned by the NHS Race & Health Observatory to create a practical digital resource that supports health and care organisations to embed anti-racist community participation and co-production throughout their work and services. This project is in partnership with Race Equality Foundation and National Voices.

Niccola and Asma attended two planning meetings with Groundwork London as part of the Green Horizons project, which aims to develop and test a scalable model of disability-inclusive climate action, with Disabled people recognised as leaders in resilience at local, city and national level. During the meetings, they developed plans to develop climate action hubs across London and set up a participatory grants scheme.

Rosie and the research team at HPRU for Blood Borne Viruses and Sexually Transmitted Infections have recruited twelve co-producers for a Public Contributor Panel. We look forward to our kick-off meeting in July!

Rosie and co-producers facilitated a workshop looking at Anti-Racism in Co-production Spaces for PhD students at University College London as part of a summer learning programme called “Transform: creating impact through knowledge exchange”. The session focused on sharing learning from our Anti-Racism in Co-Production Spaces report that was developed in partnership with People's Voice Media.

Sarah and co-producers involved in the COMMET (Co-produced Mathematical Models of Epidemics Together) project have been planning talks they will be delivering at two conferences in July. They will be sharing experiences of co-producing mathematical models of mpox at the Living Knowledge Conference and the European Conference on Mathematical and Theoretical Biology.

Helen attended Local Trust's Universities as Catalysts for Local Change conference, which focused creating a strong civic role for universities at which communities are at the forefront. During the conference she learnt from real-life examples of strong relationships between universities and communities, and discussed their Progress happens at the speed of trust report.

Get involved

We are building a practical, living resource to help health and care organisations do anti-racist co-production properly. The project is commissioned by the NHS Race & Health Observatory, in partnership with Race Equality Foundation and National Voices.

We are looking for 9 people with lived experience of racial inequality in health and care to be part of our co-design workshops for shaping the content of the resource.

Find out more about the opportunity and how to apply in this blog. Deadline: 5pm, Wednesday 15 July.

Co-Pro Cuppas

A reminder that our Co-Pro Cuppas are paused for the summer, but you might be interested to read all about our Cuppa on the theme of “payment and alternatives to payment” in our recent blog.
